For this excercise, I was tasked with creating a concept for an outdoor music festival. During my thought process, I wante to focus on the handfull of things that I dislike about music festivals. The biggest thing for me is the inability to not feel disgusting for 3 days straight. BOOM. I was going to create a "dirty pirate" festival that embraces that feeling of constantly needing a shower that is all too common at outdoor music festivals. This festival is supposed to be Escape from the decorum of everyday life, where you can let loose, forget to shower, listen to loud metal music, and make plenty of mistakes.
For the overall style of the printed media, I wanted it to have a slight similarity to Victorian Encyclopedias. Through that research, I developed this illustration style of the logo and posters. I also wanted to keep a few elements of clean, minimalistic pieces so I developed the quote Escape Life. Escape Yourself. Escape Everything. and all collateral with it to draw in a different group of young professionals aged between 20-45. With my target audience, I know that part of the experience is to have a strong social media prescence and really feeling a community within that social media arena. Therefore I wanted to give the festival a personaility via twitter, making the festival more of a "someone" than just a festival.
